How does the face age and how does a facelift work?
The new QuickLift or FaceTite gives good results for the Face & Neck in appropriate patients. It results in less bruising and swelling. This is done under local anaesthetic and sedation. You go home the same day and recovery takes 1-2 weeks. Ask Mr Uppal if you may benefit from this surgery.
Take a look at the structure of the face in the diagram below and see how a face lift will lift the parts of the face that sag with time. As we get older our skin becomes less elastic and starts to droop. All the ligaments and muscles holding the face up start to weaken and sag. This creates wrinkles and a droopy face. Face lift surgery can correct all this.
Mr Uppal is an expert in precise face lift surgery in London and Windsor. He will create a natural look so no one will be able to see that you have had surgery. As he specialises in surgery of the face, he will ensure there is no damage to nerves or other structures seen in the diagram below.
Choosing a surgeon for your face lift is a big decision and so you must ensure that they have experience in this field as Mr Uppal does. He is also up-to-date with the latest techniques to minimise risks from surgery. Mr Uppal regularly attends international meetings in the US, Europe and Asia on face lift surgery and give lectures on the subject also.
Who is a good candidate for a face lift?
Patients who have signs of sagging skin around the face and neck will benefit from a facelift. This usually occurs in the 40s and 50s but some people in their late 30s can also have a sagging neck or jowls. Jowls are the sagging bits of skin at the ends of the mouth going to the chin. They can make the person look sad even though try feel fine.
Patients age depending on lifestyle (too many late nights), genetics (what they inherit from their parents) and others factors such as smoking and sun exposure. Good creams can slow down the ageing process. No cream will reverse wrinkles or ageing even though the marketing will make these claims.
How do I keep my face looking young?
The best advice is to take plenty of sleep, stay hydrated, don’t smoke and use sun-screen. The rest is up to genetics and unpredictable factors such as weight loss. We all lose volume in our cheeks as we get older which makes us look gaunt and older. Face lift surgery by Mr Uppal can improve all these factors giving a fresh appearance.
How long does a facelift last?
How long face lift surgery lasts depends on lifestyle and genetics. Patients who have parents with early signs of ageing and a lifestyle that includes smoking, lots of sun damage and lack of sleep will age quickly. Patients who look after themselves and their skin, age more slowly.
We cannot change our genetics which determines the thickness of our skin and the elasticity of our skin collagen. Thin skin and weak collagen make us age faster. We can control our lifestyle however to delay the ageing of skin. Use a daily sunscreen cream and avoid sunlight. Get lots of sleep, don’t smoke and drink plenty of water everyday. This will protect the skin of the face and slow down ageing.
Facelifts usually last about 10 years. This depends on the factors mentioned above. Genetics and a fast lifestyle will mean the facelift doesn’t last as long. Jowls may return and the neck skin may sag unless good care is taken of the skin. A face lift may last over 10 years if we take good care of our health and skin.
What is a brow lift and who needs it?
As we get older our forehead becomes wrinkled and the eyebrows droop at the sides of our face. The brow drops and sags which in some cases can cover the outer part of our eyes. A brow lift using key hole surgery can restore a youthful forehead and eyes.
A temporal lift is a 45 min procedure under local anaesthetic that can lift the dropping brow through a very small incision hidden in the hairline. Ask Mr Uppal if this will help you as he is an expert in this temporal mini lift.
What is a Mini Neck lift?
If there is a little extra skin under the chin, this can be corrected with a short procedure under local anaesthetic that takes about an hour. It will improve hanging skin under the neck which can be unsightly. Patients go home the same day with a bandage under their chin.
This type of neck lift costs from £2895 to £6400, depending on the severity of the loose skin around the neck.
This mini neck lift cannot improve significant degrees of loose skin, which may require a full neck lift with you asleep. Mr Uppal will advise you on what will be best in your case.
Mini Face and Neck lift by Mr Uppal
As we age, facial tissues loose support and elasticity, jowls begin to form, folds around the mouth deepen and the neck looses its contour. The Mini Face Lift is designed to reverse the effects of aging by “repositioning” your facial structures to where they were five to ten years ago, giving you back your more youthful facial contours.
The Mini Face Lift results in a “younger you” rather than a “different you” – and without the “pulled” look sometimes associated with a full face lift.
What Is a Mini Face lift?
The mini facelift is a relatively new technique and involves a shorter recovery period than traditional facelift surgery.
The mini facelift focuses on specific areas of the face, such as the neck and the lower face. Using smaller incisions Mr Uppal lifts and repositions facial tissue to achieve optimal results.
Who gets a Mini Facelift?
A mini facelift is appropriate for patients who are just beginning to experience the first signs of aging but do not want to undergo major surgery. In general, those who opt for this procedure are patients in their 40’s and 50’s. Usually they want to remove minor sagging or drooping around the cheeks, jowls, and neck area. A mini face lift is cheaper than a full facelift but this should not be a consideration when deciding on surgery.
Although a mini facelift will improve the face in all patients, you may be left disappointed if you have chosen the cheaper and what may seem like ‘easier’ option. Ask Mr Uppal for advice.
Shall I have a Full Facelift or a Mini Facelift
Full facelift surgery is appropriate for patients who would like to improve their appearance by reducing wrinkles and sagging throughout their full face. On the other hand, the mini facelift is dedicated for patients who wish to reduce sagging areas only in specifically targeted areas such as jowls or the neck. Mini facelift procedures cannot address areas such as the forehead or brow. Mr Uppal will assess your skin and face to advise you which is best for you.
How long does it take to recover from a Mini Facelift?
Since a mini facelift is a minimally invasive procedure the recovery time of this procedure is much faster than the full face lift with less bruising and swelling. Patients are most likely able to go back to work in 7-14 days with make up.
Don’t forget that a proper facelift that is actually going to provide lasting results, will result in significant swelling and bruising initially. This may last to some extent for 3-6 months. If you don’t have much swelling and bruising after a facelift, then all the layers of the face may not have been lifted enough.
Which facelift procedure has the quickest recovery time?
Talk to Mr Uppal about having a simple FaceTite type procedure. This is done under local anaesthetic and takes half an hour. The scars are only behind the ear. Recovery takes 2-3 days. The results are not as pronounced as a big facelift, but patients find that the benefits of minimal scar and quick recovery makes up for this.
Can additional procedures be performed with a mini-facelift?
Several cosmetic procedures can enhance the rejuvenating effect of a mini-facelift. If the upper portion of the face needs to be addressed, blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) or a brow lift may be considered. Laser treatments and chemical peels can be combined with a mini-facelift to improve the skin’s texture and reduce fine wrinkles. Additionally non-surgical treatments might be suitable supplements. Mr Uppal can advise you as to which procedures might best be combined with a mini-facelift in order to achieve the results you desire.

What makes up the Middle of the Face and stops it getting older?
The middle of the face sags with time. This makes the face look gaunt and tired. A mini face lift or mid face lift can restore this drooping of the cheek skin. The midcheek is structurally a highly complex area of anatomy that separates the orbital cavity above from the oral cavity below. Even though the midcheek appears uniform in youth, it in fact has two distinct parts: one that directly overlies bone (formed by the body of the zygoma laterally and the maxilla medially) and one that is unsupported, where it overlies the orbital cavity above and oral cavity below the midcheek skeleton. Accordingly, there is a limited area of “available” midcheek bone for the support of the overlying soft tissues.
Furthermore, the complex movements of the midcheek required during facial expression mean that the midcheek soft tissues need to be delicately balanced between the simultaneous needs for mobility and stability. As a result, the anatomy here is highly compacted and complex which Mr Uppal will explain to you.
The retaining ligaments of the face are responsible for binding the soft-tissue layers of the face to the underlying facial skeleton, from the dermis to the layer on the skull bone. Mr Uppal lifts these ligaments so it is available to the deep underlying structures, such as the parotid saliva gland and the muscles for chewing. Nerves that pass from deep to the top to innervate their target structures move to the surface predictably in close association with these retaining ligaments, as they provide areas of relative stability for protection of these vital structures.
In between these retaining ligaments are located the facial soft-tissue spaces. Conceptually, these are gliding planes that function to facilitate mobility of the superficial fascia over the deep fascia as well as movement of the orbital part of the superficial fascia independent of the mouth part. Mr Uppal has a close understanding of these well recognised soft-tissue spaces in the upper and lower face are the temporal and premasseter spaces, respectively.
With aging, the midcheek breaks down into three distinct segments: the lid-cheek, cheek or malar, and nasolabial segments. The development of these segments is explained on an anatomical basis by the inherent mobility and eventual laxity over the roof of the soft-tissue spaces (resulting in surface bulges) in contrast to the relative fixation at the boundaries provided by the retaining ligaments of the midcheek (creating surface valleys).
The other face spaces and prezygomatic spaces have previously been defined and their anatomical implications elucidated. In contrast, the anatomy of the medial midcheek, involving the nasolabial segment over the maxilla, has not been similarly defined. Specifically, the presence of a significant soft-tissue space, with associated retaining ligaments and nerves, is predicted based on the mobility and laxity that develops here. Mr Uppal will closely examine your face and make a comprehensive investigation of the midcheek anatomy to define all the soft-tissue spaces and retaining ligaments of the midcheek. This gives you the most natural result that lasts 5-10 years depending on skin type and lifestyle.
