Great meeting this evening of the Breast Cancer Patient’s Group at Frimley Health NHS Trust. The patients shared some personal stories of their experiences of recovery from cancer treatment and breast reconstruction with tummy flaps (DIEP).
Talking about their own journey, helped other patients who are waiting for surgery, to understand their treatment much better.
Everyone talked about the effect on themselves and their families which was touching to hear.
Big thanks to Kamal the Plastic Specialist Nurse Practitioner and Tooba the Registrar in surgery for their invaluable contribution.

“Really happy with result – wish I had got it
done years ago
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hated my nose for many years and advice
got older and face looses collagen, nose
looked bigger and uglier, so wanted my nose
done for my 40th birthday later this year. Mr
Uppal advised I just have a few tiny tweaks
rather than a whole new nose, as I still
wanted to look like me. Extremely happy with
result, wish I had got it done years ago, I now
have confidence and don’t mind people
taking of photos of me, it’s made me more
confident to talk to people as don’t feel self
conscious anymore”

I am an examiner at the Royal College of Surgeons of England where surgeons from all across the world have been coming this week to pass the entrance exam.
Junior doctors need to train for four years before taking the Exams to join the Royal College of Surgeons. This is only the beginning of their journey to becoming a consultant in the UK which takes a further six years.
We’re fortunate in the UK of having the best and longest training for surgeons compared to anywhere in Europe and the world.
This ensures that patients get the best care possible by fully qualified surgeons, similar to the Board Certified status in the USA.
This famous painting shows King Henry VIII giving the charter to the Barber-Surgeons’ Company, in 1541.
This explains why surgeons in England are called Mr and not Dr.

Privilege to be invited to the faculty to teach Rhinoplasty, Eyelid Surgery and Facelift techniques with Dr Auersvald from Brazil. He is an exceptionally talented surgeon and innovator of the Facelift Net.
Thanks to @dr.van_der_meulen for inviting us and for organising such a superb course.

Great to teach with the leading surgeons from across Europe including @dr.van_der_meulen @dokter_carlo_welters @drbooi and Prof van der Hulst from Maastricht.
We taught the delegates preservation Rhinoplasty, Nose cartilage suturing techniques, mid-facelift, Eyelid surgery and Deep plane facelift.
The laboratory and facilities were superb at the medical school in Holland.
I really enjoyed the honest and direct approach from the Dutch experts who have vast experience in surgery of the face.
We met delegates who had travelled from Australia, Germany, Switzerland and all across Europe. It was great to meet the young surgeons who are so enthusiastic to learn as well as the more experienced surgeons who are improving certain techniques. Such as the Gliding Brow Lift
