Larger breasts without surgery...
Macrolane...
Macrolane Breast Shaping Injections are made from the same substance that your body uses to maintain skin turgor - Hyaluronic Acid, which you may have heard of before. This product has been injected into faces for 10 years as Restylane and Perlane and has now been produced in much purer form with larger particles to allow larger quantities to be injected in to the breast. In fact 9 million doses have been injected into the face with minimal side effects.
How is it different to surgical breast shaping?
Macrolane treatment is performed under local anaesthetic compared to general anaesthetic in surgical procedure. Macrolane has a quick recovery time of only a few hours and minimal risk of scarring. Macrolane does not interfere with the results of mammograms which are obstructed by silicone implants. This allows you to have regular checks of your breasts that show all of the tissue. In addition Macrolane injections are designed to give the breast a fullness and subtle reshaping by only one cup size. Ultimately those breasts that have dropped considerably will need a surgical treatment in order to lift them if that is what the woman desires. Also if a woman wishes to go from an A to a C or a B to a D then Macrolane is not an appropriate treatment for her and breast implants can provide excellent results.
Do Macrolane injections hurt, and how do they feel?
Macrolane can make the breast feel sore for a few days but there is no pain. The doctor will numb the area with a local anaesthetic before injecting Macrolane. The injected area feels firm for a few days like firm breast tissue as it absorbs water. After a week or two it begins to soften and after a few weeks becomes quite soft and very similar to breast tissue.
How long does Macrolane last?
Macrolane is topped up every year with roughly half the volume that is injected initially. Most people would have 200mls in the first treatment thus have a 100ml top up in 12 months. They would then have a longer period before the next top up, say 14 months and so on.
Is Macrolane safe?
As hyaluronic acid already exists within your body it is not recognized as a foreign substance. Extensive trials over since 2002 have shown no long term issues. The main risk with Macrolane is that some ladies ask for a top-up injection a few months later as they often feel they actually wanted to be bigger than they initially thought. Some opt for breast implants at a later stage if they decide to go to a much bigger cup size.
Only a handful of doctors have been trained in the UK to perform Macrolane. Mr Uppal is one of the first plastic surgeons in the UK to be fully trained in the technique. We are an established medical team that takes pride in delivering the best results possible for you. Macrolane that is performed by non plastic surgeons can lead to irregularity and a less than ideal result. Mr Uppal also specialises in correcting Macrolane that has not been performed to the full satisfaction of patients elsewhere.
